What is a Miracle?
"Miracles mirror God's eternal Love. To offer them is to remember Him, and through His memory to save the world"
~ A Course in Miracles, L 350
A miracle is a shift from fear (ego), to Love & Wholeness (Holy Spirit). Miracles begin in the mind, and extend to the mind of another through the Holy Spirit. Miracles can also, then, fall to form and effect changes and shifts in form. The love/miracle can be expressed in hundreds and thousands of different ways in form, but the source of them is always the same.
Miracles are the translation of denial into Truth and Truth is the remembrance of God and our Unity with Him. Denial & fear obscure the awareness of what is True and clouds the mind with false thoughts, beliefs and opinions so that miracles seem distant and impossible. Jesus in A Course in Miracles teaches us how to dissolve all denial & fear from the mind- so that we become open and willing to make way for miracles to be accepted by us and given through us. We are told in the principles of miracles that: "Miracles are everyone's right, but purification is necessary first." In other words, we must remove the blocks to the awareness of love's presences, so that the Love of God can naturally extend and bless others.
Miracles extend the light of forgiveness from the mind that is whole, to the mind in another that is calling to remember their wholeness. It is this extension, in mind, that creates the bridge for the Holy Spirit to heal inwardly. As the miracle is extended from this joining of minds, it unites the giver and receiver together and they experience a power and peace that is "not of this world". This Mind that we join in, is the One Mind we share with God and it contains the infinite power of His healing grace. Miracles are reparative, permanent and the equal right of everyone.
The mark of a miracle is its all inclusiveness. It is given TO all, from the Mind that knows it is ONE with All. It may appear to happen between only two, but the intent and the source of the miracle is UNITY with ALL brothers and sisters around the planet. This is why forgiveness is necessary, so that the conviction and FAITH in our One Power of Love (that exists in all beings) is unshakable in the Mind that is preparing itself to give. Without faith in a power greater than ourselves and without forgiveness of our mistakes that stand guard against miracles; miracles would be impossible.
Miracles are literally tools used in this world by the Holy Spirit in our minds. Miracles help us to collapse time and eliminate all thoughts of fear, specialness or separation that keep us from our goal of Peace. We are to ask when it is most helpful for a miracle and remain an open vessel, so that a miracle may be given us by Jesus to give at any time. Once asked for and received from within, we extend it to our brothers naturally. To give is to receive.
This is why Jesus always instructs in A Course in Miracles to train our minds in order to be at peace. He reminds us to: "Heal thy self," and we can do so by learning how to use our mind For us instead of Against us. Miracles are first for us, and then we give them. This giving demonstrates our learning and acceptance of miracles, but also strengthens our conviction in them.
Miracles happen with practice and mind training- so be patient, be kind, be gentle with yourself during this learning process. I find it helpful to wake each morning, set my goal and say with all the love and humbleness in my heart: "Father, Help me to extend whatever miracles you want of me today. I am listening, willing and open to receive your gifts to both have and to give. Thank you. Amen"

"You understand that you are healed when you give healing. You accept forgiveness as accomplished in yourself when you forgive. You recognize your brother as yourself and thus do you perceive that you are whole. There is no miracle you cannot give, for all are given you. Receive them now by opening the storehouse of your mind where they are laid and give them away. " ~ A Course in Miracles: Lesson 159

Principals of Miracles
from A Course in Miracles These principles help us to learn what a miracle is. I have used them many times as a checklist to see if what I had experienced was in fact a miracle. These principles put miracles into the realm of practical, and they can be used individually or together, depending on what one needs to learn at any given time. Read the Principles of Miracles |
